What Heat Pump HQ is

Heat Pump HQ is an independent editorial site about heat pumps in the United Kingdom. The aim is to explain how the Boiler Upgrade Scheme works, walk through real installation costs and running-cost figures with named sources, and compare the heat pumps and installers a UK homeowner is actually likely to encounter — Aira, Octopus, BOXT, Heatable, iHeat, Heat Geek partners, and the underlying brands they install (Vaillant aroTHERM, Mitsubishi Ecodan, Daikin Altherma, Worcester Bosch, Samsung EHS, Nibe, Stiebel Eltron).

Where most heat pump comparison sites are operated by an installer or a lead-buyer, this one is neither. We do not own a stake in any installer, we do not run a directory, and we do not sell quote-form leads. That is the entire reason the site exists.

What we deliberately don't do

  • We don't claim hands-on installation experience we don't have. This site is a research and editorial resource, not a fitter's blog. When we say a heat pump's quoted SCOP is X, we cite the manufacturer datasheet or the MCS Data Dashboard — we don't pretend to have benchmarked it ourselves.
  • We don't yet have a credentialed staff reviewer. Heat pumps sit in YMYL Financial Security under Google's September 2025 Search Quality Rater Guidelines update — the wrong cost or grant figure can cost a reader thousands of pounds. Until an MCS-qualified expert reviewer is attached to this masthead, every installation, cost and grant claim should be treated as research-stage and verified against the cited primary source. This page will be updated when that reviewer is in place.
  • We don't run quote-request forms or sell leads. No "get 3 quotes" funnel.
  • We don't disguise affiliate links. Where we link to a retailer or installer with a referral arrangement, we say so above the fold.

How recommendations are made

Recommendations are made on what the publicly verifiable evidence supports — manufacturer specifications, MCS Data Dashboard listings, Energy Saving Trust modelling, Ofgem BUS scheme rules, DESNZ statistics, Heat Pump Association data, and Trustpilot / Checkatrade scores cited at their published values. Affiliate revenue does not influence which heat pump or installer ends up at the top of a list.
